Thanks Kevin & Doug

Yesterday the year long desire to get the drainage on the driveway at the Farmhouse up here on Hickory Ridge.  On Friday I received this load of rocks.   Kevin was bringing his Bobcat and his Dad's dump truck to PTM to locate water lines at the along Trolley Street and arrived early in the morning to come to our place to put in some needed drainage.  We met for breakfast at the Pike Inn at 8:30 and got to the  Farmhouse around 9:30.   The dig started over at the corner of the left garage door and water pipe and worked its way along the driveway to where a cast iron pipe full of mud was located.  There the ditch turned under the driveway so that the pipes could outflow onto the lower lawn.  From there it will head for the ditch next to the road.  At least that was the plan.        Sarah Doug and Laura looking on as Kevin does his thng...         ...

Trolley Street is underway-Merry Christmas

Image
Trolley Street construction gets underway Saturday December 21  December 21 the volunteer line crew of Kevin Zebley, Laura Wells, Armand Latour and Larry Lovejoy kicked the construction of into high gear setting poles at Enterprise Wye, named for the one time stop on Washington interurban line at that approximate location.  The stop served the Enterprise mine near this location on the far side of the Pennsylvania railroad track.  That got me thinking about how things changed in this area over the years, both with the construction of the Washington interurban and the Museum. The Enterprise Mine site occupied the valley behind the Washington Country Club.  Along about 1963 it was in the path of Interstate 79 and was largely obliterated with the construction of the highway.  The Penn Pilot website (pennpilot.psu.edu) provides a 1939 aerial view of the area shown here.  I excerpted a section of this photo for this page and marked it up with pho...

Santa goes back to the North Pole and PTM closed for the Season

Image
I worked as dispatcher on Sunday (December 15).  It was a cold grey day so I walked around a lot and drank a bunch of Dave Wood's Army coffee.  In the photo below Santa and Elf wave goodbye to PTM as Santa goes back to the North Pole for another year. We had a visit from the granddaughters.  They were fascinated by the shop mezzanine, so Laura showed them around up there. The random photo selector picked out a couple of classic photos from the Bill James archive to test your powers of observation in locations.  The lower one is supposed to be the photo on the next Support-a-Trolley page.  I finished the latest issue of Trolley Fare and Mailingirl is getting them to the Post Office today. Here's the link to the latest issue which is Summer 2019.  Quality isn't always timely... https://pa-trolley.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/2019.3-TFare-online-%C6%92.pdf

Weakly Reports webpage is kaput...

Image
Starting about 2 weeks ago I cancelled the weaklyreports.net URL and hosting service for my personal webpage.  I am no longer producing my long running weaklyreports page.  This is due to the costs of maintaining the URL and hosting services and the fact that Apple's iWeb software is no longer supported and will quit working completely with Apple's Mac 10.15 system update (all software must be 64-bit applications). I first tried out blogspot in 2014 but didn't post anything that I kept until 2016.  This past week I looked here and decided to push forward with the curved learning needed to use this venue.  This morning I took some photos from my drive and put together a page of info regarding happenings from the end of October 2019. I've decided instead to take the Google Freeway which I started about 4 years ago although my oldest post was started in 2016.  I wish I knew how to personalize the themes and I suppose I will eventually learn but for now conti...

October 2019

Image
This past week I installed the mechanisms in the route number and destination sign boxes. October 28 I caught these shots from the national news TV screen showing the now infamous bus in the hole on 10th Street in downtown Pittsburgh.  The jokes continue.  The hole will take several more months to fix.  One issue is likely steam tunnels that carry heat from the nearby production plant on the north side of the PRR main line to many building in all parts of the Golden Triangle. Pumpkin patch trolley 2019 Turns out this will be our last year for the Pumpkin Patch Trolley event.  Next year we will have two weekends of the Dino event and have a new event that is a kind of trick or treat.
